A man was sentenced to life in prison after he was convicted of watching a man's Riverdale apartment for hours before shooting him 13 times, ultimately killing him.

What we know:

It happened on June 9, 2021, at a home in Riverdale, when officers found Norman Johnson III unresponsive after being shot 13 times.

The district attorney's office said that surveillance footage from the apartment complex showed Nicholas Lloyd Price arriving in a silver Audi and waiting in the area for about two hours while watching Johnson's apartment.

Prosecutors added that the footage then captured Price walking towards the apartment shortly after Johnson's friends left, and later showed him running from the scene carrying a bookbag.

In February 2022, law enforcement authorities received a tip linking Price to the deadly shooting, the district attorney's office added. Investigators also matched his vehicle to silver Audi that was seen in the video.

Cell phone records also placed Price in the immediate area of Johnson's apartment at the time of the shooting.

A Clayton County jury found Price guilty of malice murder, two counts of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The judge in the case sentenced him to life with the possibility of parole, plus five years.

What they're saying:

District Attorney Tasha Mosley expressed hope for the victim's family following the verdict.

"While this conviction cannot undo the heinous act of violence, it is our sincere hope that his family has found some measure of peace through this outcome," she said.

What we don't know:

The release does not state why Price targeted Johnson or what led to the shooting.

It is unclear whether Price and Johnson knew each other prior to the incident, or what connection they had.
