Kia issued a recall for 462,869 Telluride SUVs due to the risk of a fire.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stated in a recall notice that external impact with force to the "front power seat side cover or seat slide knob" could cause damage to the power seat switch.

NHTSA officials explained in the notice that a "misaligned or damaged seat switch," or an incorrect recall repair, might result in continued "operation of a seat motor." And this may lead to overheating of a seat motor, which elevates the risk of a fire while driving or while parked.

Kia’s recall covers certain 2020-2024 model year Telluride vehicles manufactured from January 9, 2019, to May 29, 2024.

Are repairs available for the affected Kia Telluride vehicles?

What you can do:

Owners of the recalled Kia Telluride SUVs will be notified by first-class mail with instructions to bring their vehicles to a Kia dealership.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, technicians will install an electronic fuse assembly to prevent "continuous operation of a seat motor" if the seat switch becomes detached or damaged.

Moreover, Kia will instruct owners to park their SUVs outdoors and away from other cars or buildings until the repair has been conducted.

NHTSA officials added that Kia will reimburse owners for repair fees already incurred to Kia’s General Reimbursement Plan filed on April 30, 2026.
