Man killed Friday morning crossing Highway 92 in Cherokee County

A man was killed early Friday in a pedestrian crash on Highway 92 near Interstate 75, according to the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office.

What we know:

Deputies were called to the scene around 6 a.m. on Highway 92 just east of I-75. Investigators said the adult male was attempting to cross the roadway from a Hampton Inn toward a nearby BP gas station when he was struck.

Authorities said the man was not using a crosswalk, was wearing dark-colored clothing and was crossing in an area without lighting. A westbound passenger vehicle hit the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with deputies, according to the sheriff’s office.

The incident remains under investigation. The victim’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
