Law enforcement responds to a shooting involving a Gwinnett police officer in Lawrenceville on February 19, 2026.
GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. - A man died at the hospital on Thursday evening after being shot by Gwinnett officers in the Oaktree Meadows subdivision.
What we know:
911 dispatchers received a call around 3:45 p.m. from a male who said they had been stabbed in the hand and that someone inside the house was still trying to stab him.
Officers responded to the reported domestic violence call in the 600 block of Oaktree Park Ct NW, when a man allegedly ran out of the home, charging towards them with a knife.
The two nearby officers told the man to put the knife down, but he reportedly did not, continuing to run toward them, and so the officers fired.
The man was struck and taken to the hospital, where he later died.
Two Gwinnett police officers are now on administrative leave while the Georgia Bureau of Investigation investigates the shooting.
It's standard procedure for GBI to investigate officer-involved shootings.
