Officials say man shot by Atlanta police in Bankhead attacked officer first
A major with the Atlanta Police Department say the officer was responding to a call about a car crash. When he walked up to a truck at the scene, he says things took a violent turn.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating a shooting involving a police officer that happened early this morning near Maddox Park in the Bankhead neighborhood.

According to GBI, an Atlanta Police Department officer responded shortly before 4 a.m. to a call about a suspicious vehicle at a City of Public Works location in the 1100 block of North Avenue NW.
Upon arrival, the officer found a Ford F-250 had crashed into the guard shack. The officer tried to make contact with the truck's driver through the passenger side. When he did not respond, the officer went around to the driver's side.

Update on shooting involving Atlanta police officer
Here is the latest information related to a shooting early Saturday morning involving an Atlanta police officer.
The officer then reportedly opened the truck door and the driver, 39-year-old Jamario Duffy of Stone Mountain, tried to drive away but was unable to. Duffy then allegedly got out of the truck and began attacking the police officer, hitting him in the face and head. During the attack, the officer shot Duffy.
The suspect was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for surgery. The police officer was also taken to the hospital to be treated for superficial injuries.
It is standard procedure for the GBI to investigate shootings involving police officers.
