DeKalb County Police Officer Edgar Flores was shot dead last week in the line of duty. He was just 24.

Tuesday was the first of two planned funerals for him took place at the All Saints Catholic Church in Dunwoody.

Family, friends, and even strangers honored Flores and said farewell. The officer is being remembered for his dedication to protecting serving his community.

Law enforcement officers from all over the state attended Tuesday's funeral. They gathered at DeKalb County Police headquarters and formed a procession to the church beforehand.

It is an image the law enforcement community never gets used to. A flag-draped casket of a young officer gone too soon.

His college and academy classmate remembered getting the dreaded call, as he was flanked by his remaining two classmates.

Hundreds of uniform officers paid their respects at the standing room only service, where county officials thanked those in uniform who are the peacekeepers in our community.

Dignitaries from all level of government attended including Governor-Elect Brian Kemp. DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond spoke as Officer Justin Hamilton, who graduated from the academy with Flores.

There was also a moment where K-9 Officer Indi came to pay his respects. Indi was also shot pursuing the suspect which killed Officer Flores.

And Alexis Flores, Officer Flores' 15-year-old brother shared his memories, how he looked up to brother, and now wants to join the force like his brother.

Law enforcement lined the property for the last call ceremony. Officer Flores would have turned 25 Monday. He leaves behind a fiancée, parents, and his brother.

Tuesday's public service will be followed by another funeral at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Flowery Branch on Wednesday.
