DeKalb chase ends in tragedy: Woman dead, teen critical

A woman was killed and a teenager was seriously injured Thursday afternoon when a stolen vehicle fleeing from DeKalb County police crashed into them on Covington Highway.

What we know:

According to the DeKalb County Police Department, officers were patrolling the area of Covington Highway and Panola Road around 3:30 p.m. Thursday looking for a stolen vehicle. 

Officers spotted the car and tried to pull it over, but the driver sped away. During the chase, the driver lost control, left the road, and hit two people walking nearby.

A woman died at the scene. 

A teenager was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. 

The driver of the stolen car was also hospitalized with serious injuries, while a passenger in the vehicle suffered minor injuries. 

SKYFOX 5 flew over the scene around 4 p.m., showing a vehicle with front-end damage that crashed into an embankment near the intersection. 

Debris and papers were strewn across the site, and medics were helping one of the victims

What we don't know:

Authorities have not released the names or ages of the woman who died or the teenager fighting for their life. 

While police confirmed the vehicle was stolen, they have not yet announced the specific criminal charges filed against the driver or the passenger.
