A Cobb County police car was involved in a crash overnight with at least one other car on Interstate 20 near Factory Shoals Road. This is a developing story.
COBB COUNTY, Ga. - A Cobb County police vehicle was involved in a crash with at least one other vehicle overnight on Interstate 20 at Factory Shoals Road, blocking all lanes for several hours.
What we know:
Traffic cameras showed massive backups with long lines of brake lights stretching along the interstate as crews worked the scene. The Georgia Department of Transportation confirmed the roadway has since reopened.
Cobb County police later posted an update on their Facebook page saying one of their officers was working a crash when his patrol vehicle was struck by a driver who failed to move over.
The officer was transported to a hospital, but is expected to make a full recovery.
The police department is reminding everyone that it is the law to slow down and move over whenever a driver sees flashing blue, red or amber lights.
What we don't know:
Police did not say if the driver who struck the police vehicle was injured or if they are facing charges.
Neither the police officer or other driver were identified.
