Cherokee County firefighters battle two house fires in 24 hours

Cherokee County firefighters quickly brought a house fire under control Friday morning after crews responding to a report of a smoke odor discovered flames inside the home.

Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services said Engine 20 was dispatched around 6:30 a.m. to a home in the Victoria Road area of Woodstock.

Smoke odor call turns into house fire

What we know:

The initial call was for an investigation of a smoke odor. When Engine 20 arrived, firefighters discovered a fire inside the residence and immediately called for a full alarm, according to the department.

Crews from Station 20 and additional responding units worked to locate and extinguish the fire.

Fire officials credited the first-arriving crews with preventing the situation from becoming more serious.

No residents or firefighters were injured.

Second structure fire in 24 hours

Fire investigators remained at the scene Friday morning working to determine what caused the fire.

Cherokee County Fire said it was the second structure fire in the county within 24 hours.

The department is reminding residents to regularly check their smoke alarms and make sure everyone in their household has a fire escape plan.
