2 people shot at warming center
Two people were reportedly shot on Thursday morning at a warming center in NE Atlanta. The suspected shooter was also injured.
ATLANTA - A shooting at a recreation center being used as a warming center in the 400 block of Merritt Avenue is under investigation.
What we know:
The address given by Atlanta police corresponds to the Central Park Recreation Center, which is currently being used as a city warming center.
Police initially confirmed to FOX 5 Atlanta that they were investigating a shooting involving "multiple" people at the address given.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation later confirmed they were called in by the Atlanta police to investigate a shooting involving an officer.
A man who was staying at the recreation center told assembled reporters that he was inside the center and heard shots fired. When he turned towards the noise, he reportedly saw a man shooting at someone on the floor.
During a press conference shortly after noon, a police spokesperson revealed a man opened fire inside the warming center. Two adult males were reportedly shot by the suspect before a police officer fired their gun at the suspected shooter. The two adult males who were shot by the suspect are at Grady Memorial Hospital with gunshot wounds. The suspected shooter is also at Grady Hospital with an arm injury that is not a gunshot wound.
