What's new at Georgia Aquarium? Puffins, that's what!
ATLANTA - They’re some of your newest neighbors, and they just moved here all the way from Alaska. Now, it’s time to welcome an incredible group of seabirds to their new home at Georgia Aquarium!
Georgia Aquarium recently unveiled its newest exhibit, created in partnership with the Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward, Alaska. The exhibit features four types of very unique seabirds -- horned puffins, tufted puffins, common murres, and pigeon guillemots -- and is located in the Aquarium’s Cold Water Quest. The fascinating seabirds are all members of the alcid family, which exist in the Northern Hemisphere; puffins have small wings and legs, which make them great swimmers but not-so-great on land. Alcids, by the way, are sometimes mistaken for penguins, but they're not actually related; penguins exist only in the Southern Hemisphere (but, of course, you can find plenty of penguins at Georgia Aquarium, too!).
Good Day Atlanta’s Paul Milliken spent the morning at Georgia Aquarium, getting a first look at the new exhibit and meeting some puffins face-to-beak!
