Flash flood rescue caught live in Fannin County
A dramatic swift-water rescue unfolded live Thursday morning in Fannin County as firefighters helped a man wearing a life jacket from a raft surrounded by fast-moving floodwaters. Video showed rescuers bringing the man to safety as water rose nearly to the seat of a nearby bench. At least one responder appeared to be from Cherokee County, suggesting neighboring agencies were assisting with rescue operations. The rescue came as flash flood emergencies affected McCaysville, Georgia, and nearby Ducktown and Copperhill, Tennessee, following more than 5 to 6 inches of overnight rainfall. Evacuations were underway along the Toccoa River as runoff continued pushing water levels higher across the region.
