Chalk Level Historic District added to Georgia Register

The Chalk Level Historic District in Newnan has been added to the Georgia Register of Historic Places. One of Newnan’s oldest documented Black communities, the district features landmark schools, churches, and the first hospital for African Americans built by Dr. John Henry Jordan. This state-level recognition, sponsored by the City of Newnan, aims to revive the area’s historic legacy and support future preservation efforts for its residents and cemeteries.
