Georgia lawmakers examine rising foster care costs at State Capitol

The Joint Study Committee on Evaluating Escalating Costs in Georgia’s Foster Care System held its inaugural meeting at the State Capitol. The legislative committee was created under Senate Resolution 622 to address severe budget shortfalls and review out-of-home care delivery, wrap-around services, and escalating operational costs within the Department of Human Services. Lawmakers heard testimony from state agency leaders and advocates as they work to leverage efficiencies and protect resources for foster children across Georgia.
