Rabun County inmate escapes jail, changes mind 15 minutes later

A Rabun County inmate is facing an additional charge of escape after a brief, 15-minute getaway from the Rabun County Detention Center on Monday morning, March 9, 2026. Authorities say 45-year-old Richard Jason Crump scaled a perimeter fence during a work detail before attempting to climb back into the facility on his own.
