World Heath Org. chief oversees hantavirus evacuation in Spain

A high-stakes international rescue operation is underway in the Canary Islands after a luxury expedition ship plagued by a deadly hantavirus outbreak arrived at port this morning. Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, traveled to Tenerife to personally oversee the evacuation of more than 140 passengers and crew from the MV Hondius. The outbreak, which began while the vessel was sailing from Argentina, has already claimed three lives and infected at least eight people total. Despite the alarm, officials emphasized that the current situation is stable and contained.
