George Floyd’s family reflects on the 6-year anniversary
May 25, 2020, is a day many remember like it was yesterday. Today marks exactly six years since the murder of George Floyd. This year, for the very first time, the anniversary falls on the exact same day of the week as it did during that fateful encounter—a Monday. The intersection of 38th Street and Chicago Avenue is the exact location where Floyd took his last breath. Floyd’s uncle, Selwyn Jones, walked through what is now known as George Floyd Square alongside our sister station, FOX 9 in Minneapolis. For him and the rest of the family, returning to this space is deeply emotional.
