Grady opens 24/7 emergency department in Union City
A major milestone in healthcare access was reached, Monday, May 11, 2026, as Grady Health System officially opened its new freestanding emergency department in South Fulton County. Local leaders and healthcare officials gathered at 10:30 a.m. for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new state-of-the-art facility located on Campbellton Fairburn Road. The 20,000-square-foot center, known as the Grady South Emergency Department, is designed to provide critical care in an area often described as a "healthcare desert" following the closure of Wellstar’s Atlanta Medical Center South and AMC downtown two years ago.
