Public transit officials are investigating a horrific weekend attack after a woman was fatally stabbed aboard a moving MARTA train. The violent incident unfolded at around noon on Saturday, May 30, 2026, as a train traveled between the Lakewood-Fort McPherson and Oakland City stations. Officers patrolling the Oakland City station responded immediately to witness reports and took 25-year-old John Elijah Matthews into custody right near the train car. Emergency medical workers attempted to perform life-saving measures, but the victim died from her injuries right at the scene.
