GEMA update on ice storm preps | full press conference
In a recent press conference, officials from the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS) warned of a major winter storm expected to bring significant ice accumulations to North Georgia and metro Atlanta starting Saturday afternoon. Governor Kemp has issued a state of emergency for all 159 counties through January 29th, enabling full state resource deployment and activating the State Operations Center 24/7. Residents are urged to complete all storm preparations by today or tomorrow morning at the latest, as hazardous conditions will make travel difficult to impossible once the ice begins to build.
