White House Correspondents' Dinner shooting
A glitzy evening intended to celebrate the freedom of the press turned into a scene of chaos and panic Saturday night as a gunman opened fire outside the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) dinner. President Trump, the first lady, and Vice President J.D. Vance were rushed off the stage at the Washington Hilton by Secret Service agents as gunshots rang out near a security checkpoint. While one agent was struck, his ballistic vest prevented injury, and the suspect was subdued at the scene.
