The system failures behind Officer Tamang's death
A detailed investigation by the Gwinnett Daily Post has exposed a repetitive pattern of systemic delays, judicial leniency, and bureaucratic backlogs that allowed a violent felon to repeatedly avoid prison before the fatal February shootout that claimed the life of Gwinnett County Police Officer Senior Pradeep Tamang. The suspect, 36-year-old Kevin Andrews Jr. (known to family as "Mannie"), now faces the death penalty for the murder of Tamang and the critical injury of Master Police Officer David Reed at a Stone Mountain hotel. However, court records show Andrews should have been behind bars long before that fateful morning.
