‘Destructive’ winter storm: how Georgia is preparing
State officials are sounding the alarm ahead of a potentially “destructive” winter storm this weekend as ice, sleet and snow threaten North Georgia and metro areas. Governor Brian Kemp declared a statewide state of emergency, activated the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency and is staging crews, salt trucks and up to 500 National Guard members to respond. Kemp and emergency leaders are urging residents to secure supplies, prepare homes and avoid travel so crews can pre‑treat roads and keep key routes passable. Officials say proper preparation now can reduce risks, support safer travel and help communities weather the storm.
