Georgia Senate advances bill limiting gun storage rules
Georgia lawmakers have approved the first bill of the 2026 legislative session, sending it to Gov. Brian Kemp for final consideration. The Georgia Senate passed the measure 32–21 after it cleared the House late last year. The bill prevents cities from requiring gun owners to lock firearms inside vehicles, following a Chatham County judge’s ruling that Savannah’s ordinance was unconstitutional. Gov. Kemp now has the option to sign the bill into law or veto it, setting up the next step in an ongoing debate over local gun regulations in Georgia.
