Calls for reform grow after inmate loses limbs
The crisis at the Fulton County Jail reached a devastating new milestone this week as high-profile civil rights attorney Ben Crump and former inmate Rashaad Muhammad met with Sheriff Pat Labat on Wednesday. The meeting was called to address allegations of "horrific" medical neglect that resulted in Muhammad having both of his legs and both of his hands amputated. Muhammad, 33, alleges that when he was arrested in August 2025, he informed jail staff he needed specific antibiotics for a pre-existing blood condition. He claims those requests were ignored for weeks as his health spiraled, eventually leading to septic shock and a coma.
