Driver in custody after hitting retired deputy at marathon

A retired Fulton County deputy is recovering in the hospital after being struck in a hit-and-run early Sunday morning, March 1, 2026. The former sergeant was working a traffic detail for the Publix Atlanta Marathon in downtown Atlanta when he was hit near Ted Turner Drive. Atlanta Police confirmed they have since located and detained the suspected driver.
