ATLANTA (FOX 5 Atlanta) - With less than four weeks until Super Bowl LIII, final training sessions are underway for the city's 10,000 event volunteers.
"The Super Bowl is here in just a few days and I'm excited," said Sandra Jackson-Lett of Conyers.
Jackson-Lett decided that she wanted to volunteer two years ago after traveling to watch the Atlanta Falcons play in Super Bowl LI.
"I went down to the Super Bowl when the Falcons actually played in Houston," said Jackson-Lett. "It was fascinating to me about all the volunteers. And they [were] getting the job done."
Volunteers are divided up into five different assigned groups including the airport, hotels, Super Bowl Live, volunteer headquarters and the "street team."
"Our face will be the first face that they see," said Jackson-Lett.
While they will be available to share information with visitors, Assistant Director of Volunteers Matt Snyder said one of their biggest jobs will be to act as ambassadors for the city.
"So, a lot of greeting, a lot of high five-ing and giving that southern charm," explained Snyder. "Anything from giving directions to answering questions, you know, distributing maps to taking photos for people."
Once volunteers complete their training, they are handed their volunteer uniform, which includes a hat, scarf, gloves, and jacket.
Stone Mountain native Karim Shariff said he looks forward to representing his hometown.
"Our DNA as a city is to be a good host whether you have family members in town staying with you or whether you're hosting the Super Bowl. So I think it's kind of one and the same," said Shariff.
Volunteer training sessions will continue at the Georgia World Congress Center through January 17.
