DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - DeKalb County Police said a woman was the victim of two crimes in less than one week.
Vanessa Hudson said Wednesday night she received a text message on her phone that her back door had opened.
"Something told me to look at my video, when I looked in I said they're in my house, someone is in my house," said Hudson.
Hudson said she saw two men, one picking up a safe and walking outside and the other coming down the hallway from her bedroom with a flashlight in his hand. Hudson said she called 911 and got inside her car and headed to her home on Montezuma Circle.
"It's unsettling," said Hudson.
Hudson said the thieves left her safe in the front yard and a jewelry box in the back, but did not take anything, or so she thought. Hudson believes the thieves came back six days later.
"I go out the back to look and I said I do not see my car, let me open up the door and come out and my car is gone," said Hudson.
In a DeKalb County Police report, Hudson told officers she believed the thieves from the break-in had the spare keys to her car.
"My mindset was ‘Secure my home,’ I didn't think about the car," said Hudson. "I was like ‘secure my home [be]cause they could come back cause they didn't get anything, but they knew what was in my house so they could come back.”
Hudson said it was her neighbor who alerted her to her car being gone and since then residents are looking out for each other.
"We have a lot of neighbors around here that have some challenges," said Hudson. "They could come into their home, scare them to death."
Hudson is now installing cameras outside her home and said she is getting an outdoor alarm speaker.
