DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - DeKalb County Police said a 36-year-old woman was ambushed and robbed by a group of men, then one of them attempted to rape her.
The ordeal happened Oct. 26 in the area of Stoneleigh Hill Road and Turnbridge Wells Road. Investigators said the woman was walking home around midnight after leaving her nearby public transit stop, and walked past a group of four to five men.
"As soon as she passed them, she felt one punch her in the back of the head. When she attempted to turn around, all the males physically assaulted her," said Detective Kevin McNeil of the Special Victims Unit. "[They] grabbed her, dragged her into the woodline. They began assaulting her," he said.
As the men kept on hitting the woman, McNeil said the robbers stole her cell phone and credit cards. A suspect, depicted in a sketch, proceeded to try to rape her.
"This particular male got on top of her, aggressively removed her pants, and stated he wanted sex from her," he said.
The woman found back and screamed, and ran for help.
DeKalb County Police do not believe the individuals are involved in any other recent crimes, but are not sure if their initial motive for this attack was robbery or rape.
Officers warn women to be very wary of the area walking alone late at night.
