FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - Sheriff Ron Freeman warned people in Forsyth County to never try fooling investigators after one woman allegedly faked a carjacking.

“Most of your stories are not as good as our experience,” Freeman told FOX 5. “The simplest thing you can do is just tell the truth.”

On March 26, operators took a 911 call from 44-year old Stacey Garner in Gainesville, Ga.

“It’s dark out here and I’m scared,” Garner said in the 911 call obtained by FOX 5 News.

Her frantic plea prompted the response of multiple deputies from the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

Garner reported when she stopped to check on two men who appeared injured, they put a rope around her neck, pulled her from her black Ford Explorer and then drove away.

Deputies found the vehicle near Crystal Cove Trail and Knight Road, crashed into a tree. It was then, they grew suspicious of the Cumming resident’s claims.

“They aptly noticed that this woman, who alleged to have been snatched out of her car and the car was stolen, was holding her purse and her cell phone,” Freeman said.

Freeman added that despite reports of being dragged out of her car by a rope wrapped around her neck, she had no abrasions there.

Furthermore, deputies did notice marks on her shoulder area – where a seatbelt would lie – leading investigators to believe she was in the car when it crashed into the tree.

The Forsyth County Detective Bureau determined Garner’s 911 call was untruthful, labeling it an attempt to cover up her own car crash.

“The initial crime or the initial problem that you created is not worth going to jail for that false report of a crime,” Freeman said. “If you report a crime falsely here, you’re going to go to jail.”

Garner was charged with failing to report an accident with damage, making false statements to law enforcement, and a false report of a crime.

Garner did post bond at more than $7,000. Her next court date has not been set yet, according to officials.
