PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. - An animal rescue is wondering who is responsible for the shocking injuries to a 2-month-old little puppy.
They’ve named him Luke. And they said he was so near death from multiple skull fractures that they were about to put him down. But then something happened that gave them hope.
Luke has been receiving treatment here at Braelinn Village Animal Hospital. Last week, this little puppy was so near death from a potentially horrific blow to the head that even the most hopeful of his rescuers said it would have been merciful to put Luke to sleep. He was discovered near death under a Carroll County front porch. And the veterinary surgeon who treated him said it appears he suffered blunt force trauma.
“He sustained fractures to his skull. As well as mandible, his jaw,” said Dr. Erin Reichert of the Braelinn Village Animal Hospital.
Head bashed in and jaw broken, the animal rescue group that found Luke said his condition was grave.
“We were agonizing over whether to euthanize him or not,” said Leslie DiNucci of the Georgia Heartland Humane Society.
But then Luke, who the doctor says was suffering from brain swelling, wagged his tail. And the fight to save his life was on.
“His prognosis is good,” Dr. Reichert said. “Most skull fractures do not require surgical intervention. We don’t need to do anything other than give him rest and time.”
Luke has a long road. He is going home with a foster family. When he is well, he will be up for adoption.
