ATLANTA - A Virginia Highland neighborhood is shaken up, after car burglars turn violent, firing their gun at a neighbor and his friend.
The ordeal happened on Virginia Avenue outside a condo complex, as resident Tyler Kidney and a friend arrived, parked, and left his friend's vehicle in the driveway of the complex.
The two returned to find a man rummaging through the vehicle, and as the man started to flee with the friend's belongings, they tried to chase him down.
"He got out of the car, and started running," Kidney said. After the two got closer to the culprit and his accomplice, they saw the flash of gunfire.
"I hid out here for a second, to catch my breath," Kidney said, showing a bush he ran behind for cover.
Kidney said he was not sure whether the gunshot was a warning, or whether it was directed at him.
"I didn't think it would get that dangerous that quick," he said.
Other nearby neighbors said their vehicles had been broken into, around the holiday season.
Others said this is a wakeup call to clean out cars and prevent violent burglars from returning to the neighborhood.
