Three people broke into the Walk of Heroes Veterans War Memorial Park in Rockdale County in December 2017 and pried two sculptures, a globe, and several bronze plaques from their mounts.

The items were eventually recovered, and those responsible arrested and convicted of those crimes.

Officials said the thieves cut up the sculptures and globe to sell them.

Just last week, the district attorney’s office returned the damaged items to their rightful owners, the directors of the nonprofit organization that oversee the memorial park.

The board of directors hopes the Walk of Heroes Memorial will be fully restored to its former glory by Veterans Day.
