STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. - Lawyers for the city of Stockbridge said they have filed a lawsuit to block some controversial legislation.
Governor Nathan Deal signed off on bills that would de-annex a section of the city to create the new town of Eagle's Landing.
Thursday, Stockbridge attorneys called the legislation unconstitutional.
They said it violates a clause in the constitution that says no bill should handle more than one subject matter.
And the city's legal team said it's confident it has a strong case.
Attorneys for the city said they also plan to file a civil rights lawsuit on behalf of the people of Stockbridge and Henry County.
They said that case will come in the next three or four weeks.
