South Fulton roads closed after collision between train, tractor-trailer

The South Fulton Police Department is investigating a collision between a CSX train and a tractor-trailer that occurred at the intersection of Roosevelt Highway and Roberts Road on the night of Feb 3.

What we know:

Officers responded to the scene around 9:58 p.m., where a preliminary investigation revealed that the tractor-trailer was attempting to enter the business premises of Strategic Material when its trailer was struck by an oncoming CSX train while crossing the tracks.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured and declined medical attention from Fire and EMS personnel. The collision caused significant damage to both the trailer and the front section of the train.

Local impact:

Due to the collision, several roadways are currently blocked, including:

  • Buffington Road at Roosevelt Highway
  • Roosevelt Highway at Rockhill Road

CSX personnel are working to clear the obstruction, and motorists are advised to seek alternate routes and exercise caution in the area.
