NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. - Authorities searched well into the night on Tuesdays for a robber after a high-speed chase led to a crash in a Newton County neighborhood.
The Rockdale County Sheriff's Office said Newton County deputies arrested a woman and are now searching for her male accomplice.
The incident started in Rockdale County at the Conyers Lowes. The Sheriff's Office said a woman was attempting to steal law equipment including a leaf blower and chain saw when she was confronted by an employee. Corporal Michael Camp said the woman a man with her fled in a stolen silver SUV with the lawn equipment. A high speed pursuit ensued when the Sheriff's Office responded to the crime.
The chase ended on Highway 212 in Newton County when the two crashed into a ditch. Katie Talbott told FOX 5 News she was talking on the phone with her husband Chris holding her 18-month-old daughter Savannah on the porch when about twenty squad cars descended on her lawn. She said she went inside and reached for her gun as the deputies fanned out in many directions.
The Rockdale County Sheriff's Office said the woman was arrested a short distance from where the SUV crashed. They said they found a wig and some changes of clothes in the vehicle. The man got away.
The Talbotts said they feel protected with their firearm but won't feel at ease
Corporal Camp said it's believed the woman arrested and her accomplice is connected to other similar crimes in metro Atlanta.
He said woman who was arrested was first treated at the hospital then taken to jail. He described her as being very combative. He said she is 31 years old, but her name is not being released at this point as investigators try to link her to other crimes.
