Atlanta - Nearly 2,000 runners and walkers came out to Hartsfield Jackson International Airport on Saturday for the 2nd Annual Mayor's 5K.
The event was held on the fifth runway.
The airport's deputy director of communications Andrew Gobeil says, "The fifth runway has been here for ten years. It's helped us maintain being the busiest airport in the world."
The money raised for the event is going to the United Way of Greater Atlanta. Last year around $130,000 was raised, but this year even more was raised.
"The grand total is $185,340," Mayor Kasim Reed announced.
A total of 1985 competitors ran or walked in the event.
Olympic bronze medalist and Douglasville native Kristi Castlin was in attendance. Castlin made history in Rio as Team USA swept the 100 meter hurdle event.
The fastest male runner finished 3.1 miles in 16:55. The fastest woman did it in just over 21 minutes.
