Recycling used Thanksgiving cooking oil in Smyrna

Go ahead and fry that turkey, because Smyrna provides you a free, safe, and convenient places for everyone to drop off used your used cooking oil.

“We typically collect over 200 gallons of cooking oil during the holiday seasons, but we feel that with the communities help we can do a lot better. We have 4 vehicles that currently run totally off of the clean-burning biodiesel that we manufacture from the cooking oil, but we would love to have enough to add more vehicles,” said Ann Kirk, Smyrna Government Spokesperson. “It is very important not to pour out your cooking oil on the ground or into any drain, because it can pollute groundwater and it creates blockages in pipes that cause very unpleasant and expensive sewer backups.”

You may bring it in the original container or any sturdy closed container (like a milk jug), or pick up a free container at their drop-off locations.

The Smyrna Government will collect used oil at their City Fire Stations and the Recycling Center. The Recycling center is located at 3475 Lake Drive in Smyrna, about 2 blocks off of South Cobb Drive.

Hours are 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday and noon-8pm on Thursday (closed Sunday and Monday).
