HENRY COUNTY, Ga. - Police have arrested two people accused of traveling with fake credit cards, including stolen identities, along a major interstate in Henry County.
Officers arrested Maite Betancourt and Miguel Sanchez September 22 as they drove on Interstate 75 with the materials, including skimming devices, according to Henry County Police Captain Joey Smith.
Investigators believe the two were headed from Florida through Georgia to a neighboring state. They suspect there are at least 50 cases of stolen identities.
"They would take victims' digital information and then print them on a credit card or debit card," Smith said."...They could potentially be a part of a group where they are a carrier, taking this information from point a to point b. They could be using it themselves or they could be part of a larger ring."
Detectives also say Betancourt made a Pennsylvania ID with a false name and used the same moniker on the credit cards, which could deceive most cashiers.
Police urge people to check bank statements for any suspicious activity.
Betancourt and Sanchez are being held in the Henry County Jail.
