Police investigate shooting death of Atlanta marketing executive

Atlanta police are investigating the death of a prominent business executive. Investigators said they are close to wrapping up the case in the death of Diane McIver.

Police said the 64-year-old marketing executive was a passenger in an SUV which had pulled off the interstate at Edgewood Avenue due to construction. The SUV had two other occupants at the time, according to investigators, and continued to travel on surface streets towards Buckhead. The SUV was on Piedmont Avenue adjacent to Piedmont Park. That’s when investigators said a gun which was in the vehicle discharged, striking Diane McIver.

She was rushed to Emory University Hospital on Clifton Road where she was pronounced dead just before 1 a.m. Monday.

Police located the SUV in the hospital parking lot and took initial statements from the other occupants of the car.

Detectives hope to wrap up the case soon, but said caution the need to be thorough.

Diane McIver was president of Corey Airport Services, an Atlanta-based marketing company. Her husband, Atlanta lawyer Claud "Tex" McIver, is a partner in his firm, vice president of the Georgia State Election Board, and service on the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Gun Violence advisory board.
