CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. - An Aerostar 601P twin-engine aircraft landed at the intersection of Highway 166 and Blandenburg road near the Carroll County Jail in Carrollton, Georgia at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday.
The pilot, Ian McMahon, from Hampton, Georgia, was the only one on board. The flight departed from Henry County Airport in Hampton, Georgia and was headed to West Georgia Regional Airport in Carrollton. According to the Carrollton Police Department, the pilot is "shaken up and looks to be in his 40's." Officials said the pilot ran out of gas mid-flight and landed the plane. "There is a lot of damage on the plane."
"When the problem started it happened immediately," said McMahon. "This is a fast airplane, about 300 mph. I have some lower back pain and that jolt hitting, I feel it. People stopped immediately and the cops were here pretty quick."
The aircraft registration is N601UK look up the owner at faa.gov. The FAA is investigating.
