Officials: Grill catches Gwinnett County house on fire

A charcoal grill ends up causing a two-story home in Gwinnett County to go up in flames early Sunday morning.

Officials say they were called to the fire on the 100 block of Ashton Manor Drive in Lawrenceville by a neighbor around 3 in the morning.

When fire crews got to the home, the fire had already spread through the roof. Firefighters were able to control the blaze, but not before the house suffered extensive damage to the second floor and attic.

The three adult residents of the home and a dog were alerted to the fire by a neighbor banging on the front door and were able to get out without injury.

After an investigation, officials ruled that the fire was caused by coals on a charcoal grill which had been used on the back porch the night before.
