Breaking: Incident at Fulton County Jail
It appears there has been some sort of incident at the Fulton County Jail. Multiple law enforcement offers were observed near the jail and it appears they may be searching for someone. That information is not confirmed. This is breaking news.
ATLANTA - A law enforcement search has come to an end after an inmate named Demetrius Burkes was captured early Thursday morning, according to the Fulton County Sheriff's Office.
What we know:
A FOX 5 crew saw officers posted near the entrance to the Fulton County Jail early Thursday morning while investigators searched the surrounding area with flashlights.
The officers later left the jail and headed toward downtown Atlanta, where authorities were seen searching in the area of the Garnett MARTA station.
Shortly before 7:30 a.m., the Fulton County Sheriff's Office confirmed they had "located and apprehended inmate Demetrius Burkes."
According to Fulton County Jail records, Burkes has an extensive criminal history, including theft and drug charges.
What we don't know:
The sheriff's office has not provided any additional details about the incident at this time.
