New drug disposal box placed at police station

As reports of drug abuse and drug-related deaths continue to climb, Fulton County took another step in the fight against opioids.

Officials said opioid deaths in the county are up 150-percent since 2010 and that up to 70-percent of drug abuses get painkillers from their parents' or grandparents' medicine cabinets.

But Monday morning, the county unveiled a new drug disposal box at the Union City Police Station.

Anyone with medication they no longer need can safely and securely dispose of it.

Officials said that these boxes are just one way to start getting ahead of the problem.

County officials said they will add additional boxes across the county in the months ahead.
