ACWORTH, Ga. - There is still no motive in the weekend stabbing death of a 17-year-old Cobb County teenager.
Police said 17-year-old Abbey Hebert was stabbed repeatedly by her 18-year-old cousin Olivia Smith.
Smith is charged with felony murder and being held in the Cobb County Jail.
A warrant filed in Cobb County Magistrate Court shows the two got into an argument inside Hebert's house on Blowing Wind Court. After that, records allege the two tussled and Smith stabbed Hebert with a kitchen knife then chased her into the front yard. That's where a neighbor told police Smith mounted Hebert and stabbed her multiple times.
Cobb County Police Sgt. Dana Pierce told FOX 5 News there is no indication drugs were involved. However, toxicology tests will be sent to the GBI for review.
Grief counselors were available Monday at Hebert's school, Allatoona High.
Friends remember her as a well-liked softball player.
Hebert played with the Georgia Mystic softball team. Head Coach Ray Mitchell told FOX 5 Smith often cheered on Hebert at games.
He said the team is finding it difficult to cope with her loss.
It's just an emotional rollercoaster trying to make sense as to why something like this would happen to such a sweet person," Mitchell said.
