DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - Dozens of community members gathered at the park where bystanders were injured in a shootout, to call for an end to senseless gun violence.
Lamont Lattimore, a man in his 50s, was killed in a Tuesday afternoon shootout at Cedar Park that wounded three people. Lattimore died at the scene.
"He loved this park and lost his life in this park for someone else's mess," said sister-in-law Kindell Lattimore.
"Guns is not the right way to go. It's killing our people," said sister Terry Lucas.
Dozens of friends, relatives and neighbors gathered to light candles to pay respects to Lattimore and the victims, and call for an end to shootings.
Lattimore was described by neighbors as a friendly, easy-going gentleman who was well-known and liked in the area.
The other bystander, Tomika Alexander, said she was shot in the leg and is still recovering.
Investigators charged 35-year-old Jermaine Stephens, who was wounded in the shootout, with murder. Jamon Bigby, who was wanted for several days, was apprehended Thursday by police and also faces a murder charge.
Police said the two suspects fired at eachother, but gunfire unintentionally struck Lattimore and Alexander.
Friends said Lattimore and Bigby were actually close family friends. Bigby is Alexander's brother-in-law.
