This Veterans Day, some people in metro Atlanta added green to their normal display of red, white and blue.

"I knew I wanted to do it right away," said Brian Haddle, an Army veteran who learned about the #GreenlightAVet campaign from a television commercial.

The effort started this year as a way to show veterans the continued support they have across the country.  People can say thank you to service members just by flipping a switch.  According to GreenlightAVet.com, more than three million people across the country have taken part.

Haddle put two green lights on the front of his home in Austell.

"The green light reminds us that there's somebody there that cares and somebody that respects the vets and you know, wants to say welcome home and we appreciate your service," Haddle explained.

The Frye family in Fayetteville turned their porch light green November 1st.

"Sometimes people forget that they exist, they forget what they do for us, everything that they do and it's nice to do just something small to show you, 'Hey we care about you.  We remember what you do,'" said Rebecca Frye, who has several family members who served.

Both Haddle and the Frye family said they will keep their lights green beyond Veterans Day.
