He's a wanted man, accused in a wild shootout in the streets of Southwest Atlanta early Monday. His name, Atlanta police say, is Anthony Bernard Williams. They believe he is armed, dangerous and possibly hurt.
Police say the 26-year-old jumped out of a yellow Ford Mustang as a squad car approached during a traffic stop on MLK Drive. Williams, they say, was a passenger inside the car. He started firing at both the driver and a police officer. The officer was struck in the shoulder and bullets hit the other man in the arms and legs.
The officer returned fire and it's believed Williams was struck as well. He got into a nearby car and sped about a mile away to Fairburn Road where he ditched the vehicle and ran. He's been on the run since.
The Atlanta officer is now home from the hospital. The condition of the other man, and his relationship to Williams is unknown. Williams faces aggravated assault and other charges once he is in custody.
