Noem asked to clarify ‘domestic terrorists’ comment

The New York Times reported that Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md. questioned Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem about her description of Alex Pretti and Renee Good as "domestic terrorists" following their killings in Minneapolis. The shooting deaths sparked several days of anti-ICE protests in the city.
Noem again declined to withdraw her previous statements after she was asked by Raskin's to apologize for her comments. Noem stated in her testimony that investigations were continuing, and she communicated information received from agents at the scene.
Raskin noted that she had been quick to say shortly after their deaths that they had committed acts of domestic terrorism, according to The New York Times.

Representative Ted Lieu of California, asked Noem to commit to restricting ICE from performing enforcement operations near schools and school bus stops, one of Democrats’ demands. The New York Times reported that Noem said that immigration agents followed the same policies as other federal law enforcement agencies.
Separately, The New York Times noted that Noem didn't answer questions regarding whether any immigration enforcement officers have been disciplined or fired because of their conduct.

What to watch for in Wednesday's House Judiciary hearing

FOX News reported that Noem is entering a House Judiciary hearing that includes Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., and Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas., setting up another long session over immigration enforcement and executive power.
According to FOX News, Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., who is likely the committee’s top progressive, has previously called for stricter oversight of DHS and has been critical of Noem’s management of ICE as it carries out immigration enforcement operations in cities including Minneapolis and New Orleans.
Noem is also expected to face questions from Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon, D-Pa., Rep. Henry "Hank" Johnson, D-Ga., and Rep. Becca Balint, D-Vt.
FOX News noted that other members on the 44-member panel include Rep. Ben Cline, R-Va., Rep. Jeff Van Drew, R-N.J., Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, Rep. Harriet Hageman, R-Wyo., Rep. Brad Knott, R-N.C., and Rep. Scott Fitzgerald, R-Wis.
