KENNESAW, Ga. - One area gas station tried to give consumers a break Sunday from the sharply rising gas prices all over metro Atlanta.
Jed Kahla, the general manager of the Valero located on Cherokee Street in Kennesaw, lowered prices Sunday afternoon to $1.99 per gallon for regular unleaded--selling the fuel at cost.
"They are working too hard for the money," explained Kahla, who said it was "wrong" for other stations to raise their prices so high.
The station had between 500 and 600 gallons of gas to sell and customers waited in line to fill up their tanks for the bargain price.
"I'm just happy to be getting it for $1.99," said Edell Davis, who stopped by the gas station to top off his tank.
Prices have continued to rise after a pipeline break in Alabama discovered about a week ago disrupted the flow of gasoline into Georgia and other states.
Several people contacted FOX 5 this weekend to complain that prices at a Shell station in Douglas County had nearly doubled. As of Sunday night, the station on Anneewakee Road was charging customers $4.65 per gallon of regular and $5.15 for premium.
The owner did not return requests for comment.
